About the CCGE

The Canadian Council for Geographic Education (CCGE) is a joint initiative of The Royal Canadian Geographical Society and the National Geographic Society of Washington, D.C. established in 1993.

The programs of the CCGE aim to strengthen geographic education in the classroom. In addition to increasing the emphasis on geography within the school system, the CCGE endeavours to increase the public awareness of the importance of geographical literacy.

EXECUTIVE

The CCGE is governed by a national Executive comprised of geographic educators from elementary, secondary, college or university levels.

The Executive includes six Regional Representatives who are classroom teachers elected from the CCGE membership in their region and representatives of the Canadian Association of Geographers and Faculties of Education. The six regions on the CCGE Executive are: Atlantic, Québec, Ontario, Manitoba/Saskatchewan/Nunavut, Alberta/Northwest Territories and B.C./Yukon.
