At the present time, Beth teaches Geography, Social Studies and junior French at Logan Lake Secondary, 60 km southeast of Kamloops. “In the summer, I have the privilege of working with teacher candidates with the Faculty of Education at UBC. As well, I do contract work with the BC Ministry of Education in exam development,” says Beth. “Geography is my passion and I’m thrilled to work with colleagues across the country furthering student and teacher opportunities to engage in the teaching and learning of geography. Take the Geography Challenge with your students, if you haven’t already done so — it definitely opens the door to our geographic world”.

Connie Wyatt Anderson

Connie Wyatt Anderson has been teaching high school social sciences — including grades 10 and 12 geography — at Joe A. Ross School on the Opaskwayak Cree Nation, a progressive First Nations community adjacent to The Pas,  Manitoba, since 1992.

She has also been involved in the creation of student learning materials and curricula outside of the school setting. She has been a member of the three Manitoba Department of Education curriculum teams and has written/co-written three correspondence courses. Connie has contributed to a number of textbooks, teacher’s support guides, and school publications and has written educative materials for the Library of Parliament, Historica, the Atlas of Canada, Statistics Canada, The Canadian Atlas Online, and others.

Connie is currently a Teacher-Leader for the Library of Parliament and is on the executive of the Canadian Council of Geographic Education.

Peggy March, a retired Department Head of Social Studies, has degrees in geography and education and is currently an instructor at the Faculty of Education, Memorial University. She also works as a consultant for textbook providers and curriculum developers. Peggy has received two teaching awards, from the National Council for Geographic Education (1998) and the Prime Minister’s Award (2000).

Norm Catto

Professor of Geography, Memorial University, St. John’s. After postdoctoral research at the University of Stockholm, and lecturing at the University of Alberta, Norm joined Memorial University in 1989. Since then, he has worked with students in university courses across the curriculum, focused on numerous aspects of physical and cultural geography, landscape analysis, geomorphology, ocean sciences, environmental science, climate and climate change, and natural hazards. He has also given many oral presentations, lectures, seminars, and field trips to students ranging from Kindergarten to Grade 12. He serves as a resource person for the Geography Department of Memorial University responsible for public communication.

Emily M. Schell, Ed.D., serves as the National Geographic Education Foundation Liaison to CCGE. She works with CCGE and other alliances to promote high quality geographic education through effective, innovative, and collaborative programs. Emily resides in San Diego, California, where she has contributed to the education community as a teacher, administrator, curriculum developer, author, professional development coordinator and visiting professor.
