The topic is one that is suitable for, and applicable to, the new Graduation Portfolio. Curriculum materials through web links are available to students and teachers through the Vancouver Opera web site at www.vancouveropera.ca .

Student tickets are available for opera performances at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. The school touring production of The Magic Flute performs throughout BC. A Developing World

To mark its 75th anniversary in 2004, Canadian Geographic published a print and online world map in both French and English, with a companion map of global development statistics. The companion map, called A Developing World, was created in partnership with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

In June 2005, the Canadian Council for Geographic Education (CCGE) created a series of lesson plans to complement the map and posted them to the "For Teachers" section of the A Developing World website and on the CCGE website. In May 2006, we looked at how the lessons plans were being used. We learned that, in less than a year, teachers had downloaded 9,580 lesson plans. The lesson plans prepared for the Saskatchewan curriculum were downloaded almost twice as often as plans for other jurisdictions. Manitoba ranked second in terms of use followed by Ontario and the Northwest Territories. French and English lesson plans were downloaded equally.

Teacher response to the lesson plans for A Developing World has been strong and gratifying. However, we would like to learn more about how you are using the plans, and how we could improve them. We invite you to complete the brief questionnaire on A Developing World that can be found at www.canadiangeographic.ca/worldmap/cida/survey.asp.

You have a chance to win a copy of the award-winning The Canadian Atlas.
