the island seems immediately familiar —thanks to the writings

Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea have made Prince
Edward Island a romantic destination for millions of people
from around the world. British roots and a resistance to change
have shaped the island character.
Perched on a broad harbour that opens into the Northumberland
Strait at the mouth of the Hillsborough River, Charlottetown
is the main tourism base. It is the starting point for excursions
to the island's famous beaches and the rich, agricultural hinterland
that begins right outside its city limits.
