The Canadian Council for Geographic Education
(CCGE) is a joint initiative of The
Royal Canadian Geographical Society and the National
Geographic Society of Washington, D.C. established
in 1993.
The programs of the CCGE aim to strengthen geographic
education in the classroom. In addition to increasing
the emphasis on geography within the school system, the
CCGE endeavours to increase the public awareness of the
importance of geographical literacy.
According to the by-laws of the CCGE, the Regional representatives
on the executive committee are up for elections after a three-year
term. To prevent a wholesale turnover of all regional executive
members in one year, the renewal process happens on a continuous
three-year cycle with only two of six regions having elections in
any one year. This year ONTARIO & QUEBEC regions are up for
election. The ONTARIO incumbent, Wayne Andrew, has served for two
consecutive terms and is not eligible for re-election. The QUEBEC
incumbent, Sylvain Decelles, is eligible to run for a second term.
