The Canadian Council for Geographic Education (CCGE) is a joint initiative of The Royal Canadian Geographical Society and the National Geographic Society of Washington, D.C. established in 1993.

The programs of the CCGE aim to strengthen geographic education in the classroom. In addition to increasing the emphasis on geography within the school system, the CCGE endeavours to increase the public awareness of the importance of geographical literacy.

• Migration: The Human Journey lesson plans: A collection of 41 lesson plans for elementary, intermediate and secondary levels have been developed in partnership with Statistics Canada. Several of these lesson plans use Canada's Census to explore the theme of Migration: The Human Journey.
• The recipient of the 2007 Geographic Literacy Award is Robert Twerdoclib.
• CanaTREK’s "Summits of Canada Expedition" to climb the highest point in every province and territory is getting attention throughout Canada and the world. By using technology and adventure, the Royal Canadian Geographic Society initiative is quickly becoming the largest educational expedition in the world. By "Telling Canadians and the world about Canada — One Step at a Time", the Expedition is bringing geography, science, technology and health into schools with a new meaning to "higher learning".
