Programs

The Canadian Council for Geographic Education is well recognized through their non-profit programs that include the Great Canadian Geography Challenge, Professional Development, and Geographic Literacy.

The Great Canadian Geography Challenge (GCGC) is a national student competition organized nationally by the CCGE for students from Grades 4 to 10. There are two levels of competition. Level 1 for Grades 4 to 6 is at the school level only. Level 2 for Grades 7 to 10 offers students the opportunity to compete at the provincial and national levels.

	PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Teacher Institutes - The intent of the Teacher Institute program is to support a single initiative in support of geoliteracy with a grant of $5,000. Arnold Awards - This annual subsidy helps Canadian teachers to participate in conferences or professional-development courses in geography. Project Atmosphere - This is a summer workshop for pre-college teachers of atmospheric science topics sponsored by the American Meteorological Society and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association of the United States.

	GEOGRAPHIC LITERACY
Geoliteracy Survey - Conducted in 2005, the purpose of this research was to benchmark geographic literacy levels nationally and regionally. Geoliteracy Symposium - This two-day symposium looked at ways to project geography more effectively in the public domain. Geography Standards - The CCGE published Canadian National Standards for Geography: A Standards-Based Guide to K-12 Geography in 2001. Top 10 Reasons to Study Geography
